Jason McChristian is currently studying composition with Dr. Pablo Furman at San Jose State University and was recently awarded Dean’s Scholar for 2008.  He previously studied composition with Dr. Paul Setziol and conducting with Loren Tayerle at De Anza College, and conducting under Yair Samet, Music Director of the San Jose Youth Symphony.  Jason has performed with a variety of ensembles and has broadly studied musical repertory ranging from Chopin, to Ives, to 21st century compositions.  Jason has created works for brass quintet and saxophone quartet, concertos for both classical and electric guitar, a concerto for flute, a duet for guitar and flute, and several solo works.  Jason has served as director of the Evergreen Valley High School Brass Ensemble, and as assistant conductor of the De Anza Chamber Orchestra.  Jason is currently working as Assistant Coordinator of the San Jose Youth Symphony's after school music outreach program, Music Matters.  Serving as the brass and woodwind instructor allows Jason the opportunity to share his passion for music with children.
