Trial and Testament (2009) for orchestra
Begun shortly after the Inauguration Speech of President Barack Obama, Trial and Testament is an expression of the troubles our country has endured and its potential for greatness. The work moves through a series of different musical settings, sometimes ethereal, sometimes grandiose. Though much of the work carries hopeful and joyous tones, the work ends on an unstable augmented chord suggesting cautious optimism.
