Skies of Fire - a tone poem for London, Autumn 1940. An homage to the resilience of the people of London during the bombing of Great Britain during WWII, “Skies of Fire” is a musical depiction of the sights and sounds of the Battle of Britain. From the Westminster chimes to the terrifying Luftwaffe, what ensues is a whirlwind of marches, hymns, fanfares and ‘jazzy’ themes. Most prominent however, is the folk-tune “Der treue
Hussar” (The Faithful Soldier), which is interspersed and varied throughout the piece.
