Minstrels for Five Kings for Brass Quintet by Jason McChristian. Inspired by the Dylan Thomas poem "The hand that signed the paper", I attempted to compose music that is theatrical with a sense of the medieval. While the "five kings" in the Thomas poem represent the fingers on the hand of an oppressive ruler, for me, the five kings represent the five players of a brass quintet. Perhaps brass players are not as destructive as absolute rule, but as a horn player myself, I know we can be as pompous as any monarchy.
