Fly-By-Wire for electric guitar and orchestra was composed with the intent of melding orchestral music with various idioms found in rock-music. Beginning with a short, but declamatory rock-inspired cadenza the orchestra follows suit. As each section begins with the guitar the orchestra never backs down and instead embraces the music the guitar throws at it. The work is in a clear ABA form ending with an ethereal, minimalist final section bringing back themes from earlier sections. As flight is forever an inspiration in my works, the title refers to the electronic system found in today’s jet aircraft and acts as a metaphor for the melding of electronic and acoustic instruments.2 pages, 11x17 spiral bound
