Etude for Solo Violin was composed during the spring semester of 2006, intended to be a pedagogical work not only for the performer but the composer as well. It was written without accompaniment, which exposes the soloist and requires the instrument to provide it's own harmony. The injection of chromatic tones into the modal context can at first be unsettling, but the logic behind the construction of the melodic lines soon becomes apparent.
