Meditation on Martin Luther King Jr. (2009)
A loosely programmatic and episodic piece, Meditation is the result of an artistic collaboration with dancer Crystina Robinette.   The first section opens with the sun rising over Washington D.C. on the morning of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech.   It goes on to see the same sun, now rising in Memphis Tennessee, on the morning of his fateful assassination,.   The following sections depict the struggle of the Civil Rights movement, as well as the fight to honor the fallen leader with a national day of remembrance.   The closing section triumphantly celebrates Dr. King's legacy, floating up into the high registers of the piano before quietly coming to a close.
